Fellowship of the ring first edition second/third print 1955 Tolkien

Hyggligt skick. Skyddsomslag i hyggligt skick. Apparent third printing (Or second US as the second printing does not exist) of the first book in the magnificent trilogy with no price to front jacket flap and shallow v to bottom of Tolkien photo on rear panel. An assumed ex-library in pale blue cloth with gilt to type which has dulled. Some fabric loss to spine ends and bottom of front board with spots worn through at corners as well. Discoloration to board edges inside and out from old jacket protector. Paper scarring/loss to pastedowns and ffep where pocket must have been. Stamp to top page ends and tanning to all with stains. Some repairs to hinges front and back (previously separated). Tanning to text block with some intermittant spotting. Some tape repairs to folding map at rear and edge loss to last page which was previosuly loose. Jacket has been trimmed down by one eight inch - likely to fit in old jacket protectors used by libraries. Paper scarring/loss to insides of flaps where previously glued to pastedowns. Some large pieces missing to middle of spine with smaller chips to head and heel with some stray ones to bottom of rear panel and bottom rear corner. Some discoloration to edges of jacket from aforementioned jacket protector and some scuffing, stray marks and stains. Rare this early. No restauration on jacket.
